Dr. Constantin Schäfer

What made you decide to work at ifok?

I can combine several passions of mine at ifok: The innovative and citizen-oriented advancement of our democracy, working on transnational, European policy issues and the international cooperation with our partners and clients. But ultimately, the core of our work is bringing people together and promoting their collaboration – that’s what excites me every day.

How long have you been part of the ifok team and where were you before?

I joined ifok in March 2021 for the “Conference on the Future of Europe”. Before that, I worked as a research assistant at several universities, most recently as a postdoc at the University of Münster. I wrote my doctoral thesis at the University of Mannheim (on “Attitudes towards European Integration and Behavior in European Parliament Elections”). On top of that, I have gained professional experience at think tanks, political institutions and foundations as well as in media.

What sets you apart at the office?

The fantastic colleagues I work with are obviously the cherry on the sundae that is ifok. It is hard for me to tell what they appreciate about me. I suppose it is the fact that I always like to invite ifox from all over Germany to our small EU office in Brussels – including Belgian haute cuisine (beer and fries), of course.

What do you like doing in your free time?

I am a sports nerd, both active and passive. I like cycling, do yoga every day and have always played soccer. I love traveling and meeting people. I like reading, listening and watching about politics and science, history and geography. I also have a soft spot for the Turkish language, a heart for the Carnival and am a passionate fan of Eintracht Frankfurt.
